Keep in mind that it's best not to listen to podcasts when your children are around. It’s really not appropriate for them to listen to all the examples and details shared in a podcast – definitely anxiety inducing. Your child will feel confused and this will not help their sense of security. You want them to know that you've got this and you are confident in what you're doing!
Here's a list of some of my top podcasts. They definitely make for some motivating listening!
Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne
Weekly 10-15min nuggets focused on all sorts of struggles and what you can do about it. Practical advice. Simplicity Parenting approach is best as a prevention strategy for unwanted behaviour and it absolutely works! But there are plenty of what to do in this situation type scenarios that are discussed in these bite sized podcasts, easy to fit one into a busy week.
Good Inside with Dr Becky
So easy to listen to with her practical no nonsense straight to the advice approach. If you’re thinking “What should I say when my child does…” Dr Becky has the script! She sometimes has expert guests on her podcast and sometimes it’s conversations with clients about their specific parenting struggle. Timing ranges from 20-50mins. Most are about 30mins.
Parental as Anything with Maggie Dent
Maggie is so full of common sense, she’s very real about scenarios so she’s easy to relate to. She had 4 boys growing up and for some of the time was a solo mum so she’s experienced plenty of challenges herself. She’s now a grandmother so is still very knowledgeable with parenting kids in today’s world. Timing ranges from 10mins-30mins. She covers every topic imaginable – specific scenarios that children and teens go through but also family experiences like death, divorce, parent exhaustion, pets. She covers all age groups and special needs too.
Janet Lansbury Unruffled
This is a great podcast for parents with babies and toddlers. She really changes the way you see your baby and it’s so respectful. Janet Lansbury was one of the first people I came across with my parenting strategies obsession and I highly recommend her ideas to feel a content parent with less ‘mum guilt’!
Peaceful Parenting by Sarah Rosensweet
Sarah is a parenting coach following Dr Laura Markham’s Peaceful Parenting method. She talks to clients in this podcast and also her colleagues or guests. Sarah has a sweet, lovely voice so you can’t help but feel like everything will be ok! Most of hers are 45mins+
